Marketing and business news from last week that you may have missed..
Many apologies for disappearing on you. There were reasons, let’s leave it at that. I am back and focussed on giving you a weekly update on interesting happenings in the world of business and marketing. Once in a while I will pen my thoughts on a particular topic. On to The Week That Was (TWTW)..
Sir Martin Sorrel predicts the 'ridiculous' growth in advertising spending by companies – seen as a key bellwether for the wider economy – may well continue. This Money reports.
Sir Martin, who is nicknamed the Sage of Soho because his economic forecasts are widely followed across the world, told The Mail on Sunday: 'The advertising market is as strong as I have seen it in 45 years. It's the snapback effect after what happened last year. It's huge.
'After all, when was the last time that global GDP went up by 5 to 6 per cent in a year? And then it will be 4 to 5 per cent next year. The big question will then be, do we have to pay for it in 2023? We'll see what happens.'
If you are a beer drinker like me, you will feel all frothy about this one. The Rochefort monks produce the best beer in the world in my opinion and my favourite tipple is under threat.
The Trappist monks of Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy in Rochefort, Belgium have been brewing beer since the 16th century, and when they moved to a new abbey in 1899, they opened a brewery there too. And although their history stretches back to the 1500s, the past few years have probably contained several centuries' worth of stress and conflict.
The monks have been embroiled in a lengthy legal battle with the Lhoist-Berghmans family, who are among the richest people in Belgium. The Lhoist company—which is the world's largest chalk producer—owns the Boverie lime quarry near the abbey, and they want to dig underneath it, deepening the quarry by 60 feet and extending the time that it could be worked by twenty-plus years.

Finally, Chime is the No. 1 neobank in the US. Personally, I prefer old-fashioned banking but neobanks seem to be the thing right now. A friend sent me an invite (with his referral code) for one of these banks recently.
Insider Intelligence reports that
Chime will have 13.1 million US account holders this year, up 30.7% over last year. By 2025, it’s expected to reach 22.7 million account holders, increasing its lead over competitors through the end of the forecast period.
That’s it for this edition. Back to work, you go.
Till next week.
Cheers!
